Writing in today's world is increasingly important. In Texas high schools, all courses are requiring students to write more often, in more depth, and with more proficiency. Students who have excellent writing skills adjust more easily to these high demands. Starting a high school career with improved writing confidence and skills helps a young adult successfully merge into the more competitive high school courses.
The Woodlands Summer Writing Camp addresses individual writing proficiency with the specific goal of improving writing performance. The instruction is intense, spanning only ten hours of classroom writing, and productive, addressing preparation for both the regular and advanced high school English classroom and the TAKS writing style.
Instruction in SAT/ACT essay writing will also be offered.
Limited class size allows the immediate and individualized interaction so important to honing the writing process while benefiting from the creative energy of a small group.
All instructors are currently high school English teachers at CISD high school campuses and are TAKS administrators as well as PSAT/SAT trainers. With a cumulative service of 40+ years between them, these teachers are experienced at teaching high school writing and dealing on a day-to-day basis with high school students.
Each class of the Woodlands Summer Writing Camp consists of five two-hour sessions on Monday through Friday, July 13-17, at Community Christian Church, 10801 Falconwing Drive in The Woodlands. One session will run from 9:30-11:30 and the second session of each day will run from 12:00 until 2:00.
Total cost of the camp is $225 for any two sessions per student or $135 for any one session per student, with a $50 non-refundable deposit. The remainder of the fee is due no later than July 1, 2009.
The cost includes all materials. Students do not need to bring anything to class with them.
